THE TEAM NEWS

LONDON SPIRIT MEN

  • After looking like they would comfortably secure victory over Southern Brave, London Spirit once again found themselves on the losing side, their third defeat in four matches leaving them rock bottom of the table.
  • Opener Josh Inglis struck a half century with the bat, but the Australian failed to steer his side home whilst Eoin Morgan’s terrible run of form with the willow continued as the London Spirit captain was run out on just five.
  • Morgan does not have many options should he wish to switch around the team, with only Luis Reece offering an alternative selection from a batting perspective and the onus is on experienced campaigners such as Joe Denly and Ravi Bopara to step up with the bat.

NORTHERN SUPERCHARGERS MEN

  • Northern Superchargers finally secured their first victory of the men’s Hundred last time out, as they chased down a target of 128 vs Oval Invincibles with three balls remaining and they’ll be hoping to use this win as a springboard to further triumphs.
  • Yorkshire batter Harry Brook has been in sensational limited overs form this season and that continued vs the Invincibles, the 22-year-old striking 47 not out from 30 balls to see his side home after a platform was laid at the top of the order by opener Chris Lynn’s 48.
  • Batter Dane Vilas’ first appearance for the Superchargers saw him dismissed first ball and whether he keeps his place for this match will likely depend on whether South African Faf du Plessis is passed fit to play following his concussion symptoms.

THE PREDICTION

The Northern Superchargers finally have lift off in the men’s Hundred and the question is whether they can back that up with another positive result against a team clearly flattened from a mental point of view. London Spirit are simply unable to close matches out in their favour and that must have a psychological effect on their players. Add that to a batting line-up hugely weakened without their two England test players and it doesn’t bode well for them here. The momentum of the Superchargers could well carry them through when you also consider their formidable spin-bowling attack to go alongside the devastating form of Brook with the bat. Back the visitors to emerge victorious here.
