All-time meetings: Somerset W11, Hampshire W5, No result 1
Last meeting: Somerset beat Hampshire by 6 wickets

  • After Somerset’s impressive win in the opening match against Glamorgan, they came crashing back down to earth against Kent Spitfires last time out as they fell 41 runs short as Imran Qayyum’s five-wicket haul played a key role in them being bowled out for just 124.
  • They are boosted by the return of captain Lewis Gregory who was released by the ECB after not being named in the England Test starting eleven against Ireland and the all-rounder will provide them with a big lift as they look to get back to winning ways.
  • The bowling has been solid in both matches so far with Roelof van der Merwe in excellent form along with the Overton brothers, but the inclusion of Gregory for Lammonby will add more depth to the batting which will rely on Banton and Babar Azam getting them off to a good start.

  • Hampshire’s hangover from their miserable 2018 T20 Blast campaign continues as they remain without a victory from their opening three matches and they desperately need to snap this steak if they are to have any hope of reaching the knockout phase this year.
  • The batting order desperately needs to start firing and other than Rilee Rossouw’s 60 from 38 balls against Sussex last time out on Wednesday, not enough of those around him made any worth contribution and skipper James Vince is under pressure to raise his game after his duck while Donald, Northeast and Morris need to improve.
  • James Fuller’s place is under threat after two displays with minimal contribution with bat and ball so they may consider bringing Tom Alsop into the side to bolster the batting line-up and he does have some form against Somerset.

Despite possessing some quality players like Vince, Rossouw, Dawson, Abbott and Morris, Hampshire continue to struggle in this format of the game. They continue to be unable to put together complete performances and unless that changes quickly, it looks set to be another disappointing campaign for them. They make the trip to Taunton against an inconsistent Somerset team, but one that will be boosted by the inclusion of skipper Lewis Gregory. His return may just give them the edge here to inflict another miserable defeat for Hampshire.
