THE TEAM NEWS

LANCASHIRE LIGHTNING

  • Lancashire Lightning are coming into this game with five points from their opening three matches with plenty of confidence after defending a par score of 170 against rivals Yorkshire Vikings on Thursday night in front of a sold out Headingley.
  • They were finally able to count upon Liam Livingtone and Saqib Mahmood after injury and the duo were key influences with Livingstone hitting a tidy 25 and Mahmood taking a match-winning 3/33 from his four overs as the Lightning beat their Roses rivals once again.
  • They are expected to have the same set of players available for this match once again and they could name an unchanged side as they look to consolidate their position in the North Group against one of their chief rivals for a knockout place.

WORCESTERSHIRE RAPIDS

  • Worcestershire Rapids sit on three points from their opening two matches as their last game against the Birmingham Bears was washed out following their opening win over Notts Outlaws so they will be keen to get back to winning ways here.
  • They will have to do without skipper Moeen Ali for this match as he is on England duty so Brett D’Oliveira will lead the team in his absence but the international all-rounder will be sorely missed with both bat and ball.
  • They still have plenty of quality in their ranks to overcome his absence however as Guptill and Ferguson will be desperate to improve their form, while last year’s T20 Blast revelation Pat Brown showed in their opening match that he will not be a one-season wonder with an impressive bowling display.

THE PREDICTION

The Lightning and the Rapids will both be fully expecting to emerge from this North Group and reach the knockout phase once again this year which makes this clash even more appealing. The two teams possess some major star quality and this match could very well come down to which of their key men can perform on the night. Lancs are coming off a big win over rivals Yorkshire, but playing back-to-back matches in the intense heat may take its toll. The Rapids have had a break between matches and this could very well be the game which sees Guptill and Ferguson kick-start their T20 Blast seasons.
