A terrible start in the Championship for Middlesex has continued into a poor T20 Blast start to the season. The grand old London side have won just one with four defeats of their opening five matches. Joe Cracknell made his debut in their opening win and his back-to-back half-centuries have given them some life in the top order. They come up against an Essex Eagles side that have been used to winning in all competitions over the course of the last few years but their 2021 campaign has been indifferent. The Eagles have won just two of their opening six matches with the loss of wickets in each innings causing a huge disruption to their batting. Essex have lost 43 out of a possible 50 wickets and that includes an eight-wicket victory in their most recent outing over Surrey.

Neither side are in excellent form with the bat but the visitors are welcoming back England’s Dan Lawrence into their county set-up whilst the England’s focus is on white-ball cricket. That should add some much needed impetus to the top-of-the-order and a bowling attack with Sam Cook who has taken 11 wickets and Simon Harmer should be enough to get them over the line in this one.
