THE LOWDOWN

Lancashire Lightning got their T20 Blast campaign underway with a six-wicket home win against Derbyshire Falcons thanks largely to an excellent unbeaten knock of 94 by all-rounder Liam Livingstone opening the batting. Returning to action at Old Trafford for the second day in succession, they face Leicestershire Foxes, a match that will see spin-bowler Callum Parkinson lock horns with brother Matt, who stars for the Red Rose. The visitors tasted victory in this fixture last season and after making the T20 Blast quarter-finals last season, three-time winners Leicestershire will be hoping to do even better in 2021 with Perch Scorchers star Josh Inglis set to appear as one of their overseas players alongside bowler Naveen Ul Haq of Afghanistan.

THE PREDICTION

Whilst Leicestershire Foxes may not boast the big name players that the home side does, Colin Ackermann’s men have all bases covered within their squad and are not to be underestimated. However, when taking into account that Lancashire can boast a top order of Livingstone, Finn Allen, Alex Davies and England international Jos Buttler, the hosts can blow any opponent away with the bat at any given time. Saqib Mahmood provides pace with the ball and Matt Parkinson that all-important leg-spin, so it is no surprise that they are considered one of the early favourites to win the T20 Blast. With Lancashire Lightning full of momentum following their win over Derbyshire Falcons, it would be a surprise if they were not to make it two home victories on the bounce here.
