  • Auckland Aces produced a superb run chase on New Year’s Day to chase down Canterbury’s total of 194/3 in style as Martin Guptill’s unbeaten 83 from 52 balls and Colin Munro’s 68 from 35 saw them home with three balls to spare.
  • That win keeps them in contention for a play-off place but they need to win this match against the Stags who they have already beaten once in the tournament by two runs in a shootout that saw more than 400 runs scored between the two teams.
  • Needing a win in this Dream11 Super Smash match at Eden Park’s Outer Oval, they will be without Glenn Phillips who is with the Blackcaps team so wicketkeeper-batsmen Ben Horne comes into the 13-man squad and batsman Robert O’Donnell comes in for spinner Louis Delport.

  • After losing three matches in a row, Central Stags bounced back nicely last time out to beat Otago Volts by five wickets as they chased down 184/7 with five wickets and one over to spare on Thursday.
  • All-rounder Kieron Noema-Barnett was the key man in that run chase as he hit his second fifty in three matches to help guide them to victory but they will need skipper Tom Bruce and George Worker to contribute more here against the free-scoring Aces.
  • The Stags have named the same 12-man squad for this match as they had for the Volts game so that means they will be without key pace bowler Seth Rance who continues to nurse a troublesome Achilles injury and he will be sorely missed.

Auckland Aces have little margin for error right now in their chase for a top three place and this match is simply must-win against the team that currently occupies third spot. Their key men Guptill and Munro have been producing the goods of late and, while they are missing Glenn Phillips, they still possess plenty of firepower with the bat. The Stags have the better bowling unit even without Seth Rance but their batsmen will have to be at their very best to come close to matching the Aces. They have an incredibly strong top six who are finding their top form and will likely guide them to a vital victory here.
