What was the outcome in the last meeting? Quetta Gladiators beat Peshawar Zalmi by 8 wickets

  • Peshawar Zalmi were undone by a strong batting display by Karachi Kings as they fell to defeat in their opening game of the Pakistan Super League and face a tough task if they are to earn their first win as they face Quetta Gladiators in this game.
  • After winning the toss, Zalmi’s decision to chase backfired as Babar Azam opened with a superb knock and was backed up by Imad Wasim as the Kings posted a big score of 201/4 with Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz proving to be unusually expensive.
  • Liam Livingstone batted at number five in the order in his first match for Peshawar and hit an unbeaten 54 from just 29 balls but his effort was in vain as Zalmi fell 10 runs short and they will be focused on a better performance with the ball in this contest.

  • Quetta Gladiators got the defence of their PSL title off to a solid start as they defeated Islamabad United in their opening contest and will hope to build on that in their second game in quick succession.
  • Having chosen to field first, the Gladiators got off to the perfect start as Mohammad Nawaz caught Colin Munro off his own bowling with the first delivery of the tournament which set the tone for a solid effort with the ball as they bowled Islamabad out for 168.
  • It was not all plain sailing in reply but Azam Khan’s 59 off 33 balls proved to be a match-winning knock as Quetta chased their target with three wickets and nine balls to spare to get their campaign off to a good start.

Quetta Gladiators picked up the win in their first game of PSL 5 as they got the defence of their title off to a strong start but will be tested in this game as they face the side that they defeated in last year’s final. Peshawar Zalmi were beaten in their opening game by Karachi Kings with Zalmi made to pay for a poor showing with the ball and they left themselves with too much to do in the run-chase despite a valiant effort to reach their target. With this quick turnaround, Quetta will be confident of backing-up their opening day win and they should prove too good for Peshawar.
