What was the outcome in the last meeting? Multan Sultans beat Islamabad United by 6 wickets

  • Islamabad United lost in their opening match of PSL 5 as they succumbed to defeat against reigning champions Quetta Gladiators with their inability to complete their 20 overs with the bat costing them.
  • Islamabad lost Colin Munro with the first ball of the tournament as they got off to the worst start possible and despite Dawid Malan’s 64 from 40, his side were skittled for 168 with five balls left of their innings as many of their side struggled with the bat.
  • The Gladiators were in trouble at 26/3 but they rallied and did what was required to condemn Islamabad to defeat and they will need more support in the bowling department in this game after Shadab Khan and Amad Butt each went for over 12 an over.

  • Multan Sultans romped to victory in their first game of the tournament as they defeated Lahore Qalandars by five wickets as they chased down their target with 23 balls to spare in an impressive display.
  • The Sultans were in big trouble as the Qalandars made a great start and looked to be on their way to a huge total after reaching 59/0 into the sixth over but the spin trio of Moeen Ali, Imran Tahir and Shahid Afridi combined to turn the game on its head as they helped to limit Lahore to 138/8.
  • The confidence gained from that effort with the ball clearly carried forward onto the run chase as the Sultans made light work of the Qalandars’ total with captain Shan Masood top-scoring with 38 and it would be a surprise if any changes are made to the side for this next game.

These two teams both had very different outcomes in their opening matches of PSL 5 with Islamabad United now facing another tall order as they come up against Multan Sultans. Islamabad were beaten by defending champions Quetta Gladiators and had struggles with both bat and ball but it was completely the opposite for the Sultans who blew Lahore Qalandars away and after such a dominant performance, it is Multan who should be able to build on that effort with another win here.
