THE TEAM NEWS

JOZI STARS

  • It has been a disastrous start for the defending champions as Jozi Stars have lost all three matches played and now they face the Bay Giants who they have already lost to earlier in the tournament.
  • After another heavy defeat at the hands of Cape Town Blitz, the Stars have plenty of room for improvement with their batting letting them down as the run chase of 184 proved way beyond their reach and was not helped by Chris Gayle’s five-ball duck to start the innings.
  • The bowling unit remains below par as opposition batsmen have been able to hold off Kagiso Rabada rather than take risks against him and then attack other bowlers, so further changes may be likely in that department.

NELSON MANDELA BAY GIANTS

  • Nelson Mandela Bay Giants have made a strong start to their MSL 2019 campaign as they produced an excellent display to beat Jozi Stars in their opening match by 24 runs and had Tshwane Spartans in all sorts of trouble at 33/4 before the rain brought an end to proceedings.
  • With Imran Tahir in their ranks, their bowling unit was always going to pose a threat but the outstanding form of their pacemen Chris Morris, Junior Dala and Nandre Burger is applying even more pressure on the batsmen when facing Tahir and JJ Smuts.
  • They are likely to go unchanged once again for this match and they will be hoping some of their top order batsmen like Jason Roy and Ben Dunk can get some runs under their belt and continue this impressive start against a team they have already beaten once.

THE PREDICTION

The pressure is firmly on the defending champions Jozi stars who have lost all three matches played so far and have to turn the tables on the Bay Giants who beat them in match four last week. The batting has been underwhelming with Chris Gayle struggling to find any form, and the bowling unit has looked poor so far. The Bay Giants on the other hand have looked strong with bat and especially with the ball, and it is difficult to oppose them once again with form clearly on their side.
