THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTH AFRICA

  • South Africa were on the end of a huge loss against England last time out and now trail 2-1 in the series having won the first Test which means the hosts must now win this final game at the Wanderers to try and rescue a draw but must do so without the leading wicket-taker in the series.
  • Kagiso Rabada was banned for the final Test after the ICC handed him his fourth demerit point in the last two years for the way he celebrated taking the wicket of England captain Joe Root in the first innings and his absence will leave a big hole in the South African bowling attack.
  • Andile Phehlukwayo or Beuran Hendricks are likely to take Rabada’s place in the team whilst Temba Bavuma and Keegan Petersen will be vying to come into the South African batting line-up after numerous disappointing efforts from those that lined-up in the third Test.

ENGLAND

  • England produced one of their best performances in an away Test match for some time as they earned an innings victory over South Africa in the third Test to ensure that they cannot lose the series and will be confident of completing the job.
  • That win in Port Elizabeth was the first time England have won by an innings outside of England since beating Australia during the Ashes series in 2010 with a maiden Test ton from Ollie Pope who notched 135* helping England to a total of 499 which they declared on.
  • Ben Stokes’ fine series also continued as he too scored a century but it was another young gun in Dom Bess who starred with the ball as he secured a first Test five-wicket haul in the first innings and that performance could see him retain his place in the side with Jofra Archer potentially missing out again unless he is picked ahead of Mark Wood or Sam Curran.

THE PREDICTION

England were dominant in the third Test as they secured a huge win to give them the lead in the series against South Africa. The Proteas will need to show major improvements on their effort at St. George’s and will be without Kagiso Rabada in what is a terrible blow to their chances after he was banned by the ICC. South Africa did show some fight with a 99-run tenth-wicket partnership but that was too late to save the third match and with England’s younger players coming to the fore, they will be eager to impress once again and round the series off with another victory although the elements may not allow that to happen.
