THE TEAM NEWS

SRI LANKA

  • Sri Lanka fell short in their bid to chase down the West Indies in the first T20 match of their two matches and they will have to show big improvements in this second contest if they are to draw the series.
  • The bowling unit struggled to make real inroads into the Windies’ batting line-up and all six players who took the ball went for at least eight an over as they left themselves with a target of 197 to chase.
  • Kusal Perera and Wanindu Hasaranga were the only two players to take the game to the Windies and some very poor batting displays resulted in the Sri Lankans falling short of their target which is one area they make look to change for this second match.

WEST INDIES

  • West Indies put in a solid all-round display to claim the win in their first clash with Sri Lanka and they will be confident of making it back-to-back victories that will see them secure the series.
  • Lendl Simmons led the way with the bat as he struck an unbeaten 67* and his presence along with some strong cameos from Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard helped steer the Windies to 196/4.
  • The effort from Simmons was impressive but Oshane Thomas stole the show with a devastating spell of bowling that saw him finish with figures of 5-28 after ripping through the top of the Sri Lankan order and the Windies are likely to name a strong side once again as they aim to complete a rare series win.

THE PREDICTION

West Indies performed well with both bat and ball as they earned the win over Sri Lanka in the first T20 of the two-match series. A standout performance from Oshane Thomas helped the Windies to the win and he could prove to be the difference again. The West Indies possess a dangerous bowling line-up and they will be confident of sealing the series against a brittle Sri Lankan batting order in this second contest if the weather does not prevent any play.
