Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets

  • After losing their last six T20 matches, Pakistan ended their run without a win as they edged Bangladesh in a closely-fought affair to take the lead in the three-match series but they will have to improve further if they are to seal the series in this second game.
  • The hosts took five wickets with the ball as they kept Bangladesh’s scoring rate under control and despite losing captain Babar Azam with just the second ball of the reply, Pakistan were able to regroup with Shoaib Malik’s unbeaten 58 proving to be the difference.
  • It was not an easy chase for Pakistan with them claiming the win with three balls to spare but they have a platform to build on now and after handing T20I debuts to Ashan Al and Haris Rauf, the hosts will be hoping that pair can kick-on after solid first outings.

  • Bangladesh put up a good fight in the opening match of the series against Pakistan but fell short and will need to make improvements with both bat and ball if they are to keep the series alive.
  • Opening pair Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Naim got their side off to a strong start with a 71-run stand but when Iqbal in the 11th over, Bangladesh failed to pick up the scoring rate as they ended on 141/5.
  • Shafiul Islam led the way with the ball with figures of 2-27 while Al-Amin Hossain was also very economical but they will need support from the rest of the bowling unit in this second game and Rubel Hossain could come into the side as an extra pace option.

Pakistan ended their poor T20 record as they kicked off the series with Bangladesh with a narrow win. Scoring was hard to come by for both teams but Bangladesh are likely to rue the fact they did not kick on after a solid start in which their opening pair saw out the first 10 overs. Playing on the same track in this game, the tourists will know what they have to do to win this this second contest and Bangladesh can improve sufficiently to level the series having gone close in the first match.
