India beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets

  • India have won their last two T20 series' by a 2-1 scoreline as they edged the West Indies in their most recent matches in December and if they are in the same kind of form that they showed in the third and final game against the Windies, they will prove difficult to beat.
  • Rohit Sharma put any questions about his place in the side to bed with a magnificent 159 in the second T20 of that series but he has been left out of this squad with the Indians opting to rest their opener.
  • One man who comes back into the fold for India is Jasprit Bumrah who will make a welcome return from a stress fracture to his back that has kept him out since his side’s tour of the West Indies in August.

  • Sri Lanka will come into this first T20 on the back of a 3-0 whitewash against Australia in their last series and must make major improvements to what they showed with the bat in those matches.
  • The Sri Lankans averaged just over 119 runs per innings against the Baggy Greens and that will be not enough against an Indian side that are more than capable of posting over 200 runs in this format.
  • Angelo Mathews has earned a recall to the Sri Lankan squad with the former captain set to play his first T20 game for his nation in 16 months if selected while Nuwan Pradeep is out through injury and his place in the squad has been taken by Kasun Rajitha.

Sri Lanka arrive in India for this T20 series with plenty of work to do ahead of the World Cup. They were whitewashed in their last series against Australia and now come up against the might of India. The hosts overcame West Indies in their last series in December and despite only winning two of the three games, they showed the talent they have throughout the side with some superb individual efforts. They are difficult to beat on home soil and they should be too strong in this opening game of the three-match series.
