THE TEAM NEWS

THAILAND WOMEN

  • Thailand Women will compete in their first Women’s T20 World Cup after progressing through the qualification tournament but they saved some of their strongest performances for the play-offs.
  • Thailand hammered the United Arab Emirates before proving too good for Scotland to seal their place in this competition and will be hoping that they can carry that form on against some of the elite teams in the world.
  • They have opted to stick largely with the squad that qualified for their maiden T20 World Cup and will be led by Sornnarin Tippoch and have some talent that will be worth keeping an eye on including Chanida Sutthiruang.

WEST INDIES WOMEN

  • After claiming their first Women’s T20 World Cup title in 2016, West Indies Women were unable to back that up as they were knocked out in the semi-finals in the following tournament which they hosted in 2018.
  • West Indies topped their group with four consecutive wins in the group stage but were on the end of a comprehensive loss to eventual winners Australia in their last four clash as they meekly surrendered their title.
  • The Windies will be boosted by the return of Deandra Dottin who makes a welcome return to international cricket following a long injury battle with a shoulder issue and she could have a key role to play along with captain Stafanie Taylor.

THE PREDICTION

Thailand Women will compete in their first ever Women’s T20 World Cup after making it through the qualifying campaign. They will have it all to do as they come up against some very established teams with West Indies Women the first of those. The Windies have some real talent in their side and the 2016 champions will be keen to make it into the latter stages of the tournament once again. Thailand have a handful of dangerous players but the occasion is likely to be too much for them and the Windies should be comfortable winners.
