  • Pakistan’s hopes of a semi-final place are hanging by a thread after their comprehensive defeat by England on Friday and this clash against South Africa in Sydney is simply a must-win match for them.
  • They put in a reasonable performance with the ball against England as they restricted them to 158/7 but it was still enough to put scoreboard pressure on their batters who lost their composure throughout and tried shots they would not usually attempt.
  • Anam Amin missed out against England and her absence was felt so they will be hoping she can return for Sadia Iqbal but they will likely otherwise be unchanged as they need some of their batters to step up and build some big scores.

  • South Africa are in a prime position in Group B as they are the only team to have won both of their matches played so far and they know that victory here against Pakistan will see them qualify for the semis.
  • The opening victory against England was a major confidence booster but the victory over Thailand last time out served a different purpose as it gave their star batters time at the crease and enabled them to put some runs on the board and find some form.
  • Marizanne Kapp missed out against Thailand as Nadine de Klerk came into the side but the experienced Kapp will surely return here to bolster the side and they will be keen to keep building momentum with a win here.

Pakistan were somewhat exposed against England as they were found wanting and their victory over the Windies was put in some perspective. They face another daunting task against South Africa here who have started the tournament in superb form and can clinch a final four spot with a win in this game. They should have far too much quality for Pakistan once again and unless the Pakistani bowlers like Diana Baig can somehow produce some magic, the South Africans should have far too much all-round quality for them.
