  • Kolkata Knight Riders were hugely disappointing in the 2019 edition of the IPL as after winning four of their first five matches, they only managed two further wins and fell short of the top four places due to their inferior net run rate.
  • They will be desperate to improve on that and challenge for honours and they have once again assembled a dangerous roster led by skipper Dinesh Karthik that possesses arguably the most feared group of overseas stars in the tournament.
  • Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins are the quartet expected to start this opening match for them here and assuming Narine and Russell can stay fit, they are going to be a major force in this game and throughout the tournament.

  • Mumbai Indians were frustrated to have lost their opening game against Chennai Super Kings so they will be desperate to bounce back here and put in a much-improved display against the Knight Riders.
  • Their bowling attack was below-par in that opening game with even Jasprit Bumrah not at his best so they will be hoping for an improvement in that area and they may bring Nathan Coulter-Nile into the side if he is passed fit.
  • There is a big reliance on all-rounders Pollard and the Pandya brothers to contribute more with the bat so they will be keen to do well with the big West Indian making 150th appearance in the IPL.

Kolkata Knight Riders come into their first game in IPL 2020 against the defending champions Mumbai Indians who lost their opening match to CSK. The Indians will be stunned by that loss and they were off the pace in that game so we can expect to see an ultra-focused and super-motivated Mumbai team here. They will have to be against this KKR side who possess some fearsome strikers in their batting ranks. Eoin Morgan is batting as well as he ever has right now while Dre Russ is showing no signs of slowing down with the bat even if his knees continue to plague him and prevent him from bowling too much. Much will depend on whether KKR can hit their stride immediately but it is Mumbai Indians who are tipped to benefit from having played one game already and bounce back with a win here.
