THE TEAM NEWS
- League winners Delhi Capitals lost to Chennai Super Kings in qualifier 1 of the play-offs, meaning that in order to reach the final, they must defeat in-form Kolkata Knight Riders in this second qualifier.
- Whilst Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was fit to play, the Capitals chose to bench him for their match against Chennai and the likelihood is that he’ll come into the starting line-up here, although England’s Tom Curran made a case to keep his spot in the team with three wickets last time out.
KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS
- Fresh from knocking Royal Challengers Bangalore out of this year’s IPL in the eliminator, Kolkata Knight Riders go hunting for their fourth straight victory and a place in the grand final to face Chennai.
- The big conundrum for KKR is whether to install explosive all-rounder Andre Russell into the team if passed fit and change a winning unit, with Shakib Al Hasan the most likely candidate to sit out as a result.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ dramatic turn around since the resumption of year’s IPL continued as they edged their way through the eliminator to set up this match. Eoin Morgan’s side have now won six of their eight games in the UAE this year including all three fixtures they have played in Sharjah, the venue for this second qualifier. Delhi Capitals now find themselves under immense pressure to bounce back with their hopes for a second successive IPL grand final appearance now hanging in the balance. For KKR, they won’t feel any pressure as nobody expected to see them in this position. Whilst they may not boast the star names of Delhi, they are figured out how to win in these conditions in the UAE and boast a potent mix of quicker bowling and spin bowling. Add that to the form of their top order and it’s Kolkata Knight Riders who look set to reach the final here, provided they can repeat their performance levels of their last two games in Sharjah.
