THE TEAM NEWS

BARBADOS TRIDENTS

  • After losing the first qualifier against the rampant Guyana Amazon Warriors, Barbados Tridents get another chance in this second qualifier against Trinbago Knight Riders in their bid to reach their first final since 2015.
  • Their bowling unit will be looking to bounce back here after a poor display against the Amazon Warriors with the usually economical Harry Gurney and Shakib Al Hasan both going for 46 each from their four overs, and they need to raise themselves against a powerful Knight Riders’ batting line-up.
  • The batting order welcomed back Shai Hope last time out for the first time in CPL following injury and he hit a tidy 21 from 16 balls. His inclusion bolsters their batting even further, although it may take the West Indies star time to get up to speed in what should be an unchanged team.

TRINBAGO KNIGHT RIDERS

  • Trinbago Knight Riders snapped their six-match winless run on Sunday by overcoming St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots by six wickets as yet another Lendl Simmons half century and some late big-hitting from skipper Kieron Pollard guided them to a six-wicket victory.
  • They risked Sunil Narine in that match and it paid off as he returned outstanding figures of 2/10 from his four overs to restrict the Patriots to just 125/7 while Chris Jordan produced his best display since arriving in the Caribbean with 3/30.
  • The inclusion of Narine was huge for the balance in this Knight Riders team and they will likely risk him once again for this key match with an unchanged side possible, but they will need to raise their game another level against this Tridents outfit.

THE PREDICTION

Trinbago Knight Riders’ search for a third consecutive CPL crown remains alive as they edged past the Patriots on Sunday and will now seek to overcome the Tridents. The Barbados outfit lost in the first qualifier to Guyana Amazon Warriors but they will be confident of beating the Knight Riders who they beat twice in the group phase and restricted them to just 129 and 134/8 in the two matches. Their bowlers have the measure of the Trinbago batting line-up and that should be the decisive factor unless Sunil Narine produces some magic.
