THE TEAM NEWS

ST KITTS AND NEVIS PATRIOTS

  • St Kitts and Nevis Patriots ended the group stage in fine form winning four of their last five matches and they will be confident against Trinbago Knight Riders due to that form and the fact they beat them in a Super Over the last time they met.
  • The batting has been somewhat inconsistent throughout the tournament and will be something they look to improve on as they will desperately need bigger contributions at the top of the order from the likes of Evin Lewis, Devon Thomas, Mohammad Hafeez and Laurie Evans.
  • Star bowler Sean Cottrell has struggled with form and fitness at times during CPL 2019 but he has been instrumental in many of their victories and they will look for him to inspire them here, while Mohammad Hafeez’s part-time spin will be crucial for them too.

TRINBAGO KNIGHT RIDERS

  • After winning their opening four matches in CPL 2019, Trinbago Knight Riders have lost five and had one match washed out as they limped into the knockout phase and they are easily the team with the worst form of any of the final four.
  • After trying four opening partnerships in their last four matches and none of them paying off, the likelihood is that they will risk the fitness of Sunil Narine and his troublesome finger problem for this crunch match and he will open the batting with Lendl Simmons, and likely the bowling too.
  • While their batting should be their strong point, it has struggled in the second half of the tournament as they have frequently given their average bowling unit enough to work with, but the 43 runs scored by Colin Munro last time out will hopefully spark some form the New Zealander.

THE PREDICTION

The form book clearly points towards St Kitts and Nevis Patriots as their run of four wins in their last five is in stark contrast to the Trinbago Knight Riders who are winless in their last six. With elimination on the cards for the losing side, this is a crunch match for both teams and one which may see the Knight Riders risk the struggling Sunil Narine who has a nagging finger injury. He is unlikely to be able to spark such a turnaround in form however, and the Patriots have to be favoured to continue their fine run of form and progress in the play-offs.
