THE TEAM NEWS

BARBADOS TRIDENTS

  • Barbados Tridents come off a third defeat in five matches on Sunday as they lost a rain-affected clash with the dominant Guyana Amazon Warriors team by 11 runs and they will look to bounce back here and virtually eliminate the Tallawahs.
  • Alex Hales returned from t20 Blast Finals Day action on Saturday to play in the match on Sunday and he will likely be joined by his Notts Outlaws team-mate Dan Christian who is expected to be available for this match.
  • Their batting line-up is under some pressure to improve after scoring 140 or less in their last three innings which is simply nowhere near good enough if they are to challenge for honours in this high-scoring CPL 2019 as other than Glenn Phillips, not enough of them have made significant contributions of late.

JAMAICA TALLAWAHS

  • The Jamaica Tallawahs sit firmly rooted to the bottom of the CPL ladder with just one solitary win from their opening seven matches but they will take solace from the fact their only win did come against Barbados Tridents.
  • Their defeat last time out against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots was arguably their most disappointing so far as they had their opponents struggling at 82/6 from 12 overs only to see the Patriots’ Fabian Allen smash them around to reach a strong total off 176/6.
  • With Rovman Powell out injured and missing the remainder of the tournament and Oshane Powell’s bowling struggles continuing, their options to change things around are somewhat limited while Andre Russell’s fitness remains a major concern for them.

THE PREDICTION

There is plenty on the line for both the Tridents and Tallawahs coming into this match. This is win or bust for the Tallawahs who desperately need a win against the Tridents who sit in the final play-off spot. Their chances are already slim, but they can go level on points and they simply have to win their three remaining games. The Tridents are hardly convincing themselves and they are the only team the Tallawahs have beaten so far. Their batting has been woeful of late and the Tallawahs will be confident of outscoring them for a second time and picking up a vital win.
