  • Jamaica Tallawahs suffered a miserable 2019 CPL campaign finishing bottom of the ladder as they could only muster two wins from ten matches and even their star-studded squad that featured the legend Chris Gayle could not inspire them.
  • Gayle has departed but that may ultimately not be a bad thing given the poor mood around the camp last year but they have retained a strong local core of Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Oshane Thomas, Chadwick Walton and Glenn Phillips while their big signing was all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite from the Patriots.
  • Along with Pakistani big-hitter Asif Ali, they have paired Sandeep Lamichhane with Mujeeb Ur Rahman and the duo could terrorise teams in this CPL with Mujeeb a more than adequate replacement for the absent Tabraiz Shamsi.

  • St Lucia Zouks endured another disappointing CPL campaign last year as they finished fifth for a second year in a row and they paid the price for making a slow start as they only managed to win one of their first six games last year.
  • The Zouks will be led by veteran Darren Sammy once again but they were hoping to count upon Chris Gayle after he joined the club following his departure from Jamaica Tallawahs, but the Universe Boss decided to opt out of the tournament for personal reasons.
  • They will also be without Rilee Rossouw, Anrich Nortje, and Colin Ingram after the trio pulled out but they have made some good replacement signings with Roston Chase, Zahir Khan, Scott Kuggeleijn and Najibullah Zadran all joining their ranks.

St Lucia Zouks have had their preparations disrupted as much as any team in the CPL and that does not bode well for one of the teams that has largely struggled to compete in their CPL history. They continue to be led by veteran Darren Sammy but barring the occasional big innings, they often carry him in the field especially. They do possess some matchwinners in their ranks but not as many as the Tallawahs and the Jamaicans have to be favoured to get an opening win here.
