What was the outcome in the last meeting? Sydney Sixers beat Melbourne Renegades by 6 wickets

  • Sydney Sixers have won their last two matches to secure their spot in the finals of BBL|09 but they need to win this final game to give themselves a chance of securing a second chance in the tournament by finishing in the top two.
  • The Sixers proved far too good for Brisbane Heat with a superb bowling display limiting their opponents to just 126/8 which they chased down with eight wickets in hand and 25 balls to spare with James Vince and Josh Philippe doing most of the damage.
  • The pair passed 50 runs apiece but Philippe ended unbeaten on 52 to help guide his side to the win and following that comfortable success for the Sixers, they are further boosted by the return of fast bowler Josh Hazlewood who replaces Ben Manenti in the 13-man squad.

  • Melbourne Renegades were unable to make it three wins in a row as they suffered a narrow defeat in a high-quality contest against Hobart Hurricanes and the reigning champions will now be consigned to the wooden spoon with no chance of finishing anywhere but bottom of the ladder.
  • The Renegades struggled with the ball as the Hurricanes racked up 190 runs for the loss of just three wickets and despite a valiant chase, Nathan Ellis held his nerve in the final over to keep four runs between the two teams.
  • In their penultimate game of the campaign, the Renegades have made a host of changes with captain Aaron Finch returning to the side following international duty and he is joined by Kane Richardson, Brayden Stepien and Zak Evans but Sam Harper is out through injury.

Sydney Sixers will be confident of challenging for the title after a strong campaign so far but a win in their final round robin game will give them a solid chance of finishing second on the ladder. That would earn them a second chance of making the final and could prove to be vital. They face reigning champions Melbourne Renegades in this game who will be hoping to end their reign with a couple of wins but despite getting some big names back in their side, the Sixers should be too strong.
