THE TEAM NEWS

PERTH SCORCHERS

  • Perth Scorchers got off to an extremely poor start as they lost their opening game to the Sydney Sixers by eight wickets as they were bowled out for a paltry 131 and the Sixers knocked it off with five overs to spare.
  • They made a woeful start in that game with overseas debutant Liam Livingstone out for a duck, Cameron Bancroft for one and Ashton Turner being carelessly run out as they never really recovered from 29/4 and had a reasonable chance of winning that game.
  • It is unlikely they will make any kneejerk reactions from that match and their only change to the squad is young pace bowler Liam Guthrie coming into the 13 for Sam Whiteman but the likelihood is they name the same starting eleven here.

MELBOURNE RENEGADES

  • Similar to their opponents here, Melbourne Renegades lost their opening game earlier in the week as they were beaten by an in-form Sydney Thunder side by six wickets and two balls to spare after batting first and posting a slightly below-par 169/5.
  • The Renegades will have been disappointed that none of their batsmen went on to make a big score and they ultimately lost wickets at crucial times but they will be heartened by the fact that most of them looked in reasonable touch.
  • They have made one change for this match as spinner Tom Andrews travels to Perth as part of the 13-man squad with Alex Doolan dropping out, but the likelihood is that they name an unchanged side as they looked to get their first win under their belts.

THE PREDICTION

Both the Scorchers and Renegades lost their opening games in BBL|09 but the manner of the Scorchers loss was particularly concerning. Their squad on paper looks thin and some of their key men looked woefully out of form in that loss to the Sixers. The Renegades on the other hand competed well in defeat but still have plenty of room for improvement. They will be confident for this trip to Perth that they can step it up a level and they have to be favoured to get their first win.
