THE TEAM NEWS

MELBOURNE STARS

  • Melbourne Stars continued their dominance in this edition of the Big Bash League as they produced another fantastic display to hammer Perth Scorchers in their recent contest with their bowling unit in devastating form.
  • The Stars were able to remove the Scorchers for just 86 with Jackson Coleman standing out with figures of 3-16 and Marcus Stoinis continued where he left off following his record-breaking exploits against Sydney Sixers by scoring 39*.
  • An eight-wicket win was earned with plenty of balls to spare as the Stars wasted no time in reaching their target but they will soon have a gap in their side to plug after Haris Rauf received a call-up for Pakistan.

PERTH SCORCHERS

  • Perth Scorchers suffered a huge batting collapse as they failed to live with runaway leaders Melbourne Stars and they will have to show major improvements if they are to take anything from this game against the same opponents.
  • Opener Josh Inglis was the only player to do anything of note with the bat as he scored 37 of his side’s 86 runs with Cameron Bancroft the only other player to even reach double figures as the Stars tore through the Scorchers’ batting line-up.
  • The Scorchers have been afforded some rest ahead of this second clash in quick succession against the Stars and after some weary displays in the first game, Perth may opt to make some changes to their side.

THE PREDICTION

Melbourne Stars looked every inch the BBL champions in waiting as they demolished Perth Scorchers. They face the same side again in what they will hope will be a repeat performance and it would take a brave person to back against them at the minute. They possess a 9-1 record at the top of the ladder and with some of their players in outstanding form with both bat and ball, it is difficult to envisage the Stars slipping up against a team they were far too good for a couple of days ago.
