THE PREDICTION

Whilst the rain contrived to ensure that both Kent and Glamorgan drew their most recent County Championship matches against Sussex and Yorkshire respectively, the two sides did have some cause for optimism. For Kent, it was the return to form of their batting line-up who have performed so poorly throughout the season so far. After collapsing to 145 all out in their first innings, Kent recovered to post 387/4 in their second dig, with batsman Jack Leaning’s 127 not out a highlight. For Glamorgan it was the performance of overseas bowler after the Australian took 5/39 from 15 overs as the Welsh county bowled Group 3 leaders Yorkshire out for 230, on what was albeit a very bowler-friendly pitch in Cardiff.

Third-placed Glamorgan are still well in the hunt for a top two spot, but their batting needs to fire here if they are to pick up what would be a vital victory at Canterbury. Much will depend on Australian test batsman Marnus Labuschagne, who is yet to hit a half century since his return to Glamorgan batting at 3. A big first innings from Labuschagne here could well set the tone for the rest of the match with the Glamorgan bowling attack more than capable of taking 20 wickets against Kent, providing they can dismiss the likes of Leaning and England star Zak Crawley early on. Should Glamorgan fire with the bat, then they should go and win this match.
