THE PREDICTION

Hampshire come into this on the back of an absolute thumping away to Surrey last week in one of the most dominant performances of the season. Hampshire travelled to the Oval and were bundled out for just 92 before conceding 560-7 declared and then falling to an innings and 289-run defeat. That loss followed an impressive start to the campaign in which they began with two wins and a draw; a draw in which they needed just one-wicket to trigger a small chase against Gloucestershire. That impressive start will be focused upon as they look to move on from last week.

They come up against a Somerset side that have won three of their opening four matches in probably the most intriguing and competitive group in the County Championship. Despite that impressie start, they have only managed to score over 300 on two occasions and their highest scores have been 318. Their strong bowling attack, led by the impressive Craig Overton, has been extremely potent. However, the form of the top-order, particularly Tom Banton, will be a concern for the west-countrymen.

Despite that, the likes of Overton, Davey, Leach and Brooks will be confident of exploiting the vulnerabilities exposed in Hampshire’s batting last weekend. Given that, an away win would be the slightly favoured outcome in this one.
