Canelo ‘Saul’ Alvarez (57-2-2) suffered just the second loss in his glittering career as he was on the end of a unanimous verdict from the judges in his May bout with Dmitrii Bivol. That ended a run of eight successive victories but it is only likely to further enhance his desire to get the better of rival Gennady Golovkin in their third fight.
Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1) will be desperate to defeat Canelo Alvarez as the pair meet to complete their trilogy. Alvarez is the only opponent that the Kazakh has failed to beat in his career and that is something the 40-year-old will be keen to atone for. Golovkin has won his last four fights, his latest coming against Ryota Murata in which he claimed the 37th KO of his career.
THE PREDICTION
Canelo ‘Saul’ Alvarez and Gennady Golvokin will meet for the third and probably final time in what should be a thrilling contest in Las Vegas. There has been little to split the pair in their two bouts to date with a draw in their first meeting ensuring the duo met again with Alvarez claiming the spoils in that second affair by means of a majority decision. Both men possess extraordinary punching power and strong chins so it is unlikely either will be stopped early but Alvarez has looked the better boxer of the two in their two bouts so far and he can remain the only man that Golovkin has yet to defeat in his career.
