Aqib Fiaz hasn’t really been tested since he turned pro last year and although all five of his bouts have gone to the scorecards they have all been routine wins. The 20-year-old - who is based at the same gym as Carl Frampton - is stepping up in terms of both quality of opponent and distance for this bout as it’s first professional fight scheduled for eight rounds and Kane Baker is expected to give him a tougher test than he has faced previously.
Kane Baker has proven himself to be a very stubborn opponent and will certainly not roll over for his younger opponent. The Birmingham-based fighter has only been stopped twice in 19 previous bouts and those two stoppages were against Conor Benn and Darren Surtees. He doesn’t have amateur pedigree on his side but he makes up for that in strength, stamina and determination - that might not be enough to overcome his more well-schooled opponent though.
The upcoming young rising star Aqib Fiaz is expected to face a tricky challenge from Kane Baker and will have to use all of his boxing nous to overcome a tough opponent. Baker will certainly be up for the battle and will have moments of unsettling Fiaz, but the younger man is the more accomplished boxer and should have the skills to outpoint the dogged Baker over eight rounds.
Prediction: Fiaz to win on points
