THE TEAM NEWS

DALLAS MAVERICKS

  • The Mavericks should be considered as one of the top teams in the Western Conference in recent weeks, and they enter this matchup riding a four-game winning streak following a 143-101 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. That streak has lifted Dallas to fifth place of the Western Conference with a 10-5 record.
  • There are some good news for head coach Rick Carlisle when it comes to injuries, as Dallas will have almost their entire roster available for this game. The lone potential absentee would be Seth Curry, as the shooting guard is dealing with an illness and will be a game-time decision.
  • Luka Doncic has been playing at an extremely high level of late, posting triple-doubles in three of his last five games, and he is averaging 29.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and 9.7 assists this season.

HOUSTON ROCKETS

  • The Rockets remain one of the top teams in the Western Conference this season and they currently sit in fourth place of the standings with an 11-5 record. However, they’re coming off a 112-119 loss against Los Angeles Clippers which sees them on a two-game losing streak after winning eight in a row prior to that.
  • Houston should see their depth slightly hampered ahead of this contest, as Eric Gordon, Gerald Green and Nene Hilario have all been ruled out of this contest. Danuel House has been listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision.
  • James Harden should be the player to watch for the Rockets. The All-Star shooting guard leads the league in scoring with 38.3 points per game, although he is doing it while shooting just 43.4 percent from the field. He has scored 30-plus points in nine of Houston’s last 10 games.

THE PREDICTION

This Texas rivalry will live another chapter but this time, both teams are among the best in the Western Conference. The Rockets could have a slight edge since they’re playing at home, but they have looked sloppy defensively over their last two losses. The Mavericks have been the opposite, scoring over 140 points in each of their last two wins while averaging 128.3 points per game during their four-game winning streak. The impressive form of Luka Doncic should be a factor as well, so the Mavericks look to be slight favourites entering this matchup.
