THE TEAM NEWS

BOSTON CELTICS

  • Coach Brad Stevens has assembled a solid Celtics team on both ends of the court and despite losing the season opener to the Philadelphia 76ers last month, they have done nothing but win afterwards and are the hottest team in the NBA right now. Right now, Boston sit at the top of the Eastern Conference standings with a 9-1 record and they are coming off a 140-133 win over the Washington Wizards.
  • Boston will have a huge absence in this game since Gordon Hayward is out with a broken hand and the small forward, who was going through his best run of form since joining the Celtics, does not have a clear timetable for his return. Daniel Theis has been listed as day-to-day with a finger injury, while Robert Williams is questionable due to a knee injury.
  • Kemba Walker should be Boston’s player to watch here. The star point guard has taken a big role as Kyrie Irving’s replacement in Boston, and he is living up to the expectations so far since he averages 25.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. Walker has scored 25 or more points in each of his last three appearances.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

  • The Warriors have been one of the worst teams in the Western Conference this season and enter this matchup riding a five-game losing streak, while winning just once over their last nine fixtures. They are coming off a 120-94 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers and they sit dead last in the Western Conference standings with a 2-10 record.
  • Stephen Curry is out for the next three months due to a hand injury and Klay Thompson continues to recover from a knee injury – both are expected to return somewhere around March at the earliest. Kevin Looney remains questionable due to a hamstring injury, while Jacob Evans and Damion Lee have also been ruled out due to hip and hand problems, respectively.
  • D’Angelo Russell should be Golden State’s player to watch ahead of this game. The point guard has scored 30 or more points in each of his last three appearances, and is clearly the go-to guy on Golden State’s offense. Russell currently averages a career-high 25.7 points on a nightly basis while adding 6.7 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.

THE PREDICTION

The Warriors have been struggling on both sides of the ball and the fact that they have allowed at least 120 points in four of their last five defeats should not bode well for their chances moving forward. The win-loss record of both franchises is also telling – while Golden State are the worst team in the Western Conference, Boston enter this game on a nine-game winning run and top the Eastern Conference thanks to their 9-1 mark. Boston should not face major issues to come away with the win here, extending Golden State’s awful run of form.
