THE TEAM NEWS

AUSTRALIA

Captain: Aaron Finch

  • Australia’s fine form continued as they claimed another eight-wicket win over Pakistan to go 2-0 up in this ODI series with it now looking a formality that they will claim another series victory.

  • Aaron Finch backed up his 116 in the first game with a career-best 153 not out as the Australian captain was able to carry on his superb form along with fellow opener Usman Khawaja who chipped in with 88 for an opening partnership of 209.

  • Having started the game superbly with two wickets for just 16 runs from five overs, Jhye Richardson suffered a dislocated shoulder which casts doubt over his availability for the World Cup with Pat Cummins or Jason Behrendorff potentially replacing their stricken teammate.

PAKISTAN

Captain: Shoaib Malik

  • Pakistan were unable to turn the tables on Australia from the first ODI as they slipped to another eight-wicket defeat but this time it was in more dominant fashion with the Australians looking even more comfortable.

  • Wickets were once again hard to come by for Pakistan with their bowlers now taking just four wickets in two matches and they will hope that a different venue for the third game can lead to a change in fortunes and there may be further changes to the bowling attack.

  • Mohammad Hasnain was the third Pakistani to be afforded an ODI debut in this series with the 18-year-old pace bowler giving the Australians something to think about with several dangerous deliveries but he was unable to find consistency and failed to find a breakthrough.

THE PREDICTION

Australia looked comfortable as they chased down Pakistan’s total for the second game running with the latter’s leisurely run-rate and inability to take wickets both contributing to the defeat. Australia will now look to wrap up the series in the third game and then kick on to attempt the whitewash. Pakistan will need to show plenty of improvement in this game to get close to their opponents and that might mean further changes to their bowling attack whilst they need more batsmen to contribute with Mohammad Rizwan receiving limited support when notching 115 in the second game. The Australians are in a rich vein of form and they are set to continue that with another win.
