West Indies beat England by 10 wickets

Captain: Kraigg Brathwaite

  • West Indies followed up their win in the opening Test by hammering England once again in Antigua by ten wickets as they won the toss and put England in, and subsequently outplayed them yet again to seal the series ahead of this final Test in St Lucia.
  • Skipper Jason Holder has been suspended with a one-match ban for his team’s slow over rate during the second Test and Kraigg Brathwaite will deputise once again as he did in November against Bangladesh when Holder was injured, but they will miss the captain with bat and ball.
  • Keemo Paul has been called up into the squad for this match as Holder drops out and they will choose between him and Warrican as to who will come into the side in what will surely be the only change to this in-form team.

Captain: Joe Root

  • England have lost the Test series after two massively disappointing results against the Windies in the opening two matches and the post-mortem and discussion over the team’s quality, selection and psychological strength are well under-way despite having one match remaining.
  • Once again their fragile batting let them down with the potential for collapse at virtually any lost wicket rearing its ugly head and that has led to further question marks over pretty much all the key positions in the team with the top order especially coming under intense scrutiny.
  • It seems unlikely that there will be wholesale changes as they do not have that many quality options to bring in but it is very likely that one of the three wicket-keepers in the team could make way with Foakes the most likely given the fact he is the more junior of the three and has a bruised hand so that could see another bowler come into the team with Woakes the most likely.

The West Indies’ dominance in this series has surprised many but they are relishing this great run of results and performances. Complacency is unlikely to be an issue as they are thriving right now and clearly enjoying their cricket for the first time in a long time. England on the other hand are struggling throughout the team and none of their batsmen are emerging with any real credit. They look capable of collapsing at any stage and even though the more relaxed environment of this dead rubber may suit them, it is hard to see them reversing this abysmal form. With the weather unlikely to play a role here, another home win is on the cards even without skipper Holder in the team.
