Coach: Michael Di Venuto

Captain: Jade Dernbach

  • Surrey have lost both of their opening two Vitality Blast matches to Kent and Middlesex and it has been their batting that has let them down so far as they only registered 158/6 against Middlesex and fell six runs short of chasing down Kent’s total of 173.

  • With the pressure mounting to turn their t20 season around quickly, they are handed a major boost by the availability of Aaron Finch and Nic Maddinson now that their national team duties with Australia have ended.

  • The duo will add plenty of quality to the batting line-up now which makes them close to full strength and one of the strongest teams on paper in the entire tournament barring the absent Currran brothers, and they need to produce immediately here.

Coach: Anthony McGrath

Captain: Ryan ten Doeschate

  • Essex Eagles lost their opening match against Sussex where they were largely outclassed but they bounced back to beat Middlesex last Friday night and had Adam Wheather’s impressive 45 from 18 balls to thank for a tremendous run chase.

  • Adam Zampa showed signs of settling into the Blast against Middlesex as he helped slow their charge and conceded just 21 from his 3 overs and picked up the vital wicket of Bravo, so they will need another strong bowling display here.

  • Ravi Bopara has not had the best of starts to the t20 Blast and they will hope he can raise his game with both bat and ball, as they will have to be at their best against this talented Surrey side who will be extra motivated here.

Surrey have lost both of their matches so far so the pressure is well and truly on here. They are boosted by the inclusion of Finch and Maddinson, and with all the urgency and desire in their favour, that should see a focused and strong performance here. Essex beat Middlesex last time out and performed well in that game, but they still made hard work of it. Their form is better than Surrey’s, but the quality of the hosts along with their motivation to rescue their t20 Blast season should see them get their opening win of the season here.
