THE TEAM NEWS

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE STEELBACKS

Coach: David Ripley

Captain: Alex Wakely

  • The Steelbacks come into this opening match aiming to make a flying start but they face a Leicestershire Foxes team that has a good record against them having beaten them at home in the Royal London One-Day Cup this season and in the t20 Blast last year.

  • They have a fully fit squad other than Richard Gleeson who has recovered from injury but needs to build his match fitness and the talk coming out of the camp is that they are much more prepared than they were this time last year.

  • They played a warm-up match against the Birmingham Bears XI on Monday with Josh Cobb getting in the runs so he makes the squad while Rory Kleinveldt is back after missing the County Championship match with Glamorgan last week.

LEICESTERSHIRE FOXES

Coach: Paul Nixon

Captain: Colin Ackermann

  • There are lofty expectations in Leicestershire for this competition thanks in part due to their exciting signings with star all-rounder Mohammad Nabi set to make his Foxes debut in this game.

  • They will also be boosted by the availability of all-rounder Ben Raine, who missed the entire t20 Blast campaign last year because of injury and they will have high hopes with him in the side.

  • A 14-man squad has been named for the trip to Northamptonshire here and there is plenty of quality within their squad led by skipper Colin Ackermann, and possessing the talent of Cameron Delport and Muhammad Abbas.

THE PREDICTION

Both teams will be desperate to reach finals’ day this year but the Foxes look the team best equipped to make it out of the two. With Nabi in their ranks and plenty of quality in all three facets of the game, they look likely to challenge for a top four spot. The Steelbacks will be highly motivated at home to make a good start, but they will need to be at their very best to get anything from this match.
