All-time meetings: Lancashire Lightning W11 Yorkshire Vikings W12, No Result 4, Tie 1

Coach: Glen Chapple

Captain: Liam Livingstone

  • Lancashire Lightning are coming off an excellent win over the Leicestershire Foxes on Wednesday as they restricted the hosts to 142 and then promptly knocked them off comfortably in just 16.4 overs to move top of the North Group.

  • Their form is excellent and their motivation will be huge here for the first t20 Blast of the season against their bitter Pennines rivals Yorkshire and in front of a sell-out and raucous crowd at Old Trafford.

  • Jos Buttler has been made available for this match and he is the only addition to the squad from midweek and he will surely be handed a start to boost a batting order that has already been one of the best in the tournament so far.

Coach: Andrew Gale

Captain: Steven Patterson

  • The Vikings are two points behind Lancashire but have played a game less and they have excelled in their three victories this season by defending totals thanks to some exceptional and experienced bowling.

  • Jonny Bairstow is unavailable for this match but they are able to count upon England stars Joe Root, Adil Rashid and David Willey to give their starting line-up a major boost with bat and ball.

  • In addition to the three internationals joining the 13-man squad, they are also able to count on Kiwi batting star Kane Williamson for the first time in the tournament so he will add yet more firepower to their batting line-up which has been arguably their weakest point so far.

This Roses clash is always eagerly anticipated but the fact that the likes of Buttler, Root, Rashid, Willey and Williamson are all included and available to play makes this one all the more appetising. Up until this stage, Lancashire have been the better of the two teams and have been impressive. However, the quality of the four players coming into the Yorkshire Vikings gives them a totally different dimension and the team looks much more experienced than their red rose rivals. This will be as hard fought as all Roses matches are, but Yorkshire are favoured based on the calibre in their ranks for this match.
