THE TEAM NEWS

DERBYSHIRE FALCONS

Coach: John Wright

Captain: Gary Wilson

  • The Falcons have lost both of their opening two matches so they will be desperate to get their first win of the season against their arch local rivals from Nottingham but confidence is low after defeats to Worcestershire and Lancashire.

  • The balance of their squad does look to favour the bowlers significantly and while they have some talented options in Wahab Riaz, Ravi Rampaul and Lockie Ferguson, their batting line-up does look fragile as has been the case in the two below-average totals they have set batting first in both matches.

  • Veteran all-rounder Wayne Madsen is their top runscorer but they need more from Critchley, MacLeod and Slater at the top of the order to enable them to compete against the Outlaws as they remain without the injured Luis Reece.

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE OUTLAWS

Coach: Peter Moores

Captain: Dan Christian

  • The Outlaws were stunned in their opening match as the Birmingham Bears beat them comprehensively by eight wickets, but they have since bounced back to win their next two matches in impressive fashion against Northamptonshire and Leicestershire, and they will be keen to push on.

  • Despite the ongoing absence of England star Alex Hales, the Outlaws have not been too affected as overseas all-rounder Dan Christian scored 113 from 40 balls in their last match to help them rack up 219/6 while Samit Patel continues to contribute nicely.

  • The bowling unit has been particularly impressive with Sodhi, Gurney, Fletcher and Mullaney all taking four wickets or more each and with solid economy rates which makes them a strong team even when they are without the likes of Hales.

THE PREDICTION

Both of these two teams possess strong bowling units, with the Falcons have one of the better attacks in the competition. However, the difference in bowling attacks does not compare to the wider gulf in the batting department where Derbyshire look fragile to say the least. They will no doubt raise their game for the Outlaws, but the visitors look the more well-rounded of the two and have form on their side.
