US Open 2017 - Rafael Nadal vs Kevin Anderson Preview

The US Open men’s singles final takes place at 9pm UK time this evening, as Kevin Anderson, in his maiden Grand Slam final, has the unenviable task of defeating two-time champion Rafael Nadal.

South African veteran Anderson is into his first Grand Slam final, and with Nadal one win away from recording his 16th Slam title, Anderson takes a considerable experience disadvantage into the match.

Nadal has won all four head-to-head matches (9-1 in sets), including both on hard courts, and while Anderson’s strong serve marginally edges the 2017 service points won on hard courts metric, Nadal has a large 5% edge on return points won.

When leading, Anderson is slightly more solid, losing just 21% of break leads this year, but Nadal’s 47% break deficit recovery percentage is virtually double that of Anderson, whose return data is relatively mediocre.
