Liverpool have won both previous Champions League encounters against Spartak Moscow. These came back in the 2002 group stages, with a 5-0 home and 3-1 away win respectively.

That defeat for Spartak at Anfield was their heaviest ever away defeat in Europe.

This will be Spartak’s first home fixture in the Champions League since the 2012/13 edition of the competition.

They suffered their heaviest defeat of the season so far at the hands of Zenit, as they ended up losing 5-1 in St Petersburg.

Spartak’s Quincy Promes is currently the second highest scorer in the Russian Premier League with six goals to his name.

Inclusive of the play-off round matches, Liverpool have scored an average of 2.33 goals per Champions League game this season – eight goals in total.

Egyptian international Mohamed Salah is Liverpool’s top scorer with six goals to his name in all competitions - he finds the net once every 117 minutes.
