These two sides have only met twice before in the Champions League and not since the 2000/2001 edition of the tournament when they were paired together in Group E. Both teams swapped home wins with PSG winning 1-0 in France and Bayern Munich winning 2-0 in Germany.

PSG earned the highest scoring away win of matchday 1 after their 5-0 thumping of Celtic in Glasgow. What makes that result all the more clinical is that they only had six shots on target at Celtic Park.

Bayern ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at the Allianz Arena when they played host to Anderlecht on matchday 1, with all three goals coming from right-footed efforts. Bayern laid siege on Anderlecht’s goal with no fewer than 29 attempts on goal, with 11 of those on target.

PSG had 60% of the ball against Celtic, and when they had it they certainly did not waste it as their passing accuracy was up at 91%.

Bayern were just as efficient with their possession as 90% of their passes successfully found their target against Anderlecht.

They are however not having matters all their own way in the Bundesliga as they currently find themselves third in the table, three points behind current leaders Borussia Dortmund.

PSG are sitting top of Ligue 1, a point ahead of defending champions Monaco. They have scored 21 league goals this season and are currently averaging three goals a game.

Edinson Cavani is PSG’s top scorer in Ligue 1 with seven goals to his name - an average of one per game and equates to a goal every 86 minutes when it comes to French domestic action.

When it comes to marksmen, Robert Lewandowski is leading the ranks for Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga goals. He is averaging 1.17 goals per game and currently finds the net every 73 minutes in Germany’s top flight.

Robert Lewandowski has taken seven penalties in his Champions League career and scored every single one of them.
