This fixture will be a repeat of the 2016 Europa League final, a night which saw Sevilla win a third successive Europa League trophy after a 3-1 win in Basel.

That was the first time that the two clubs had met in European competition.

Liverpool have won this competition five times – 1977, 1978, 1981, 1984 and 2005.

Liverpool return to the Champions League for the first time since 2014/15.

Last season saw Sevilla have to relinquish their vice-like grip on the Europa League trophy as they progressed to the Champions League round of 16, when they would eventually be knocked out by competition debutants Leicester City.

Sevilla scored 7 goals in the group stage last season – an average of 1.1 goals per game. This was the joint-lowest of all the teams that progressed to the round of 16; an accolade they shared with Atletico Madrid and Leicester City.

Both clubs finished fourth in their respective domestic leagues last season.
