Chelsea have won this competition once – 2012.
This is Qarabag’s first appearance in the Champions League group stage.
This is the first ever meeting between these two sides.
Qarabag have five Azerbaijan league titles to their name, including last season’s iteration which provided them with entry into this competition.
Chelsea return to the competition, with their absence last season ending a streak of appearances ranging as far back as the 2003/04 campaign.
The last time Chelsea were in the Champions League they made it only as far as the round of 16 back in 2015/16. That season saw them knocked out of the competition by PSG due to a 4-2 aggregate defeat.
This will be Antonio Conte’s first European game in charge of Chelsea.
Qarabag have already had to play six matches just to make the group stages after entering at the second qualifying round. They defeated Samtredia (Georgia), Sheriff Tiraspol (Moldova) and Copenhagen (Denmark).
This is not the first time that Qarabag have come to London though, as they previously faced Tottenham at White Hart Lane in the Europa League back in 2015/16. That Thursday night saw Spurs run out 3-1 winners, with Erik Lamela stealing the plaudits with an audacious Rabona goal.
