We've analysed each of the eight seeds at this year's BetVictor World Cup Of Darts and assessed their chances of success at the team event. Here we look at #8 seeds Austria:

  • Austria’s have yet to go further than the quarter-finals at the World Cup. Their last appearance at that stage of the tournament was in 2017 when Mensur Suljovic and Rowby-John Rodriguez lost to England’s Adrian Lewis and Dave Chisnall.
  • Mensur Suljovic is a World Cup ever-present having played in every edition of the tournament. This is Zoran Lerchbacher’s second appearance in the tournament after making his debut in 2018.
  • Suljovic and Lerchbacher's first appearance together at the World Cup did not go well as they exited the tournament against Japan in round one.

THE VERDICT

The likeable and talented Mensur Suljovic again leads the Austrian team at the World Cup. He has not enjoyed the best of seasons, and although he came close to making the play-offs in the Premier League, his level of performance has not been at his usual level. Withstanding that, he still has the potential to defeat any player in the tournament in a singles match. Lerchbacher is playing on the main PDC tour but has only made it through to the last 16 on one occasion this season and will have to show some improvement if Austria are to go deep in the tournament. The Austrian team will certainly hope to do better than last year when they fell at the first hurdle to Japan. The draw could have been worse for them and they should be capable of reaching the quarter-finals but that may be where their journey ends with a defeat against England.
