South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 71 runs (D/L method)

Captain: Faf du Plessis

  • South Africa wrapped up the ODI series against Sri Lanka with two matches remaining as they claimed a comfortable 71-run victory via the Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-affected game in Durban.

  • Quinton de Kock hit a superb 121 from 108 balls as he set the tone for his side on their way to 331/5 before Imran Tahir and Kagiso Rabada did a solid job at restricting the Sri Lankans to just 121/5 off their reduced 24 overs.

  • Aiden Markram’s recent form in the Momentum One-Day Cup has seen him come back into contention for the final two matches whilst Hashim Amla and JP Duminy are also back in the mix with Reeza Hendricks and Wiaan Mulder the two to drop out from the squad.

Captain: Lasith Malinga

  • Sri Lanka now just have pride to play for in the remaining ODI matches as the series slipped away from them in another heavy defeat against South Africa in the third match with the tourists outplayed in all aspects.

  • The bowling unit struggled to take regular wickets whilst they also failed to slow the scoring rate down and despite needing 193 from 24 overs in their adjusted run chase, Sri Lanka couldn’t score runs quickly enough as they fell well short in their quest.

  • Batsman Kusal Perera’s tour ended in a sad way after he suffered a hamstring tear whilst fielding in the third match and although it is the third serious hamstring injury he has suffered in the last three years, it isn’t expected to keep him out of the World Cup.

South Africa will be looking to turn the screw against Sri Lanka as they chase a series whitewash having built a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth game. The home side claimed another comfortable win in game 3 and have recalled some familiar faces ahead of this match. Aiden Markram, Hashim Amla and JP Duminy all come into contention as they look to press their claims for a spot in the World Cup squad which should serve as all the motivation they need to put on a performance if selected which will see the South Africans claim their fourth-straight win of the series.
