All-time meetings:
Lahore Qalandars W2, Islamabad United W5
Last meeting: Islamabad United beat Lahore Qalandars by 5 wickets

Coach: Aqib Javed

Captain: Fakhar Zaman

  • As the tournament moves to Pakistan, the Qalandars are in must-win territory here if they wish to qualify for the top four play-off places after losing their two matches in Abu Dhabi and they face a direct rival for the play-off places in Islamabad United.

  • The Qalanders are not helped by yet more inflicted changes to their team as recent recruit Ryan Ten Doeschate is the latest to pick up an injury so he joins Mohammad Hafeez and AB de Villiers on the sidelines, while New Zealander Corey Anderson has not travelled for the Pakistani leg of the tournament.

  • They have signed English wicketkeeper-batsman Riki Wessels and Sri Lankan all-rounder Asela Gunaratne and both have joined the squad in Karachi, while their other overseas players Sandeep Lamichhane, David Wiese, Hardus Viljoen and Anton Devcich have all travelled.

Coach: Dean Jones

Captain: Mohammad Sami

  • Islamabad United are in third place coming into this match but their top four place is far from guaranteed as the two teams below them – the Qalandars being one of them – have two games left while this is Islamabad’s final game of the group stage.

  • After two consecutive defeats, they are under some pressure to win this game and they thankfully have several of their overseas stars available as Luke Ronchi, Phillip Salt and Cameron Delport have all made the trip to Karachi.

  • Amad Butt came into the side last time out and took three wickets albeit going at ten an over, so he could keep his place but they ultimately need to bowl and bat much better than they did last time out against Quetta Gladiators.

There is huge interest and euphoria around this match as the PSL moves to Karachi for the remainder of the tournament and it kicks off with a crunch match between two teams who desperately need a win to reach the play-offs. The Qalandars have been heavily impacted by injuries and players refusing to travel so their team continues to see significant changes. Islamabad on the other hand are settled albeit in below-par form. This is the final match in the group stage for the defending champions and the Islamabad outfit should rise to the occasion and get a vital win to seal their place in the knockout stage.
