All-time meetings:
Karachi Kings W4, Lahore Qalandars W2
Last meeting: Lahore Qalandars beat Karachi Kings on a Super Over

Coach: Mickey Arthur

Captain: Imad Wasim

  • Karachi Kings kick-started their PSL campaign with a seven-run win over Multan Sultans on Friday and they had a stunning opening partnership of 157 to thank for that victory with Liam Livingstone (82 runs from 43 balls and Babar Azam (77 from 59) producing some stunning batting.

  • The Kings bowling attack managed to do just enough to hold the Sultans fightback at bay but Sohail Khan and Ravi Bopara will both be desperate to improve upon their figures which saw them hit for a combined total of 90 runs from their six overs.

  • Similarly the batting line-up after the two openers was underwhelming in that game as none of the following batsmen reached double figures when they should really have gone on to surpass 200 so they still have plenty of room for improvement and they may go unchanged for this second match.

Coach: Aqib Javed

Captain: Mohammad Hafeez

  • The Qalandars’ opening match on Friday ended in disappointment as they were beaten by five wickets by Islamabad United in a match which they looked to have control of for long spells of it but they could not kill off the defending champions.

  • The opening partnership of Fakhar Zaman and Sohail Akhtar got them off to a great start with 97 from just over ten overs but their middle order surprisingly failed to really push on so they will hope for more from star man AB de Villiers, Taylor, Brathwaite. Devcich and Hafeez.

  • Similarly the bowling unit had some positions and negatives to take from that opening performance with Rahat Ali in sparkling form taking 4/29 while starlet Shaheen Shah Afridi proving expensive going for 45 from his four overs so they will look for a better all-round display throughout the team.

The Qalandars have the team to do much better in this edition of the PSL but they demonstrated their losing mentality once again on Thursday in their opening match. They will have to shake that quickly if they are to compete in this tournament and they face a tough task against the Kings who have started well. This really is a match that could go either way and it will likely be decided on which top order can fire from the start. The Kings however look to have the greater bowling options and that may just give them a narrow edge here.
