THE TEAM NEWS

ISLAMABAD UNITED

Coach: Dean Jones

Captain: Mohammad Sami

  • After winning their opening match against the Qalandars, Islamabad were beaten by Multan Sultans on Saturday by five wickets as they could only post 125/7 batting first and the Sultans knocked that off with eight balls to spare.

  • Luke Ronchi hit a half century at the top of the order but it was left to Samit Patel and Faheem Ashraf batting at eight and nine to hit 20 each to edge them to a below par but competitive total so the pressure is on their batsmen to raise their game after another disappointing display.

  • There is an outside chance that they bring the experienced Ian Bell into the middle order which has been struggling in both games so far and Phil Salt’s place could be under threat or he could move up to open the innings potentially but they will almost certainly change things around for this game.

QUETTA GLADIATORS

Coach: Moin Khan

Captain: Sarfraz Ahmed

  • The Gladiators have only played one match so far in the PSL and they will be looking to build on that opening win against Peshawar Zalmi where they chased down 155/4 thanks to Umar Akmal’s unbeaten 75 from 50 balls.

  • They remain without Dwayne Bravo who played the Big Bash final with Melbourne Stars on Sunday morning, while Sunil Narine remains a major injury concern with his finger problem so that may see them go unchanged for this second match.

  • Despite winning their opening match, Fawad Ahmed and Sohail Tanvir will be looking to improve on their wicketless and somewhat expensive figures from that game, while the opening batsmen will also look to do better with Ahmed Shehzad out for a golden ball duck last time out.

THE PREDICTION

A fascinating game in store between Islamabad and Quetta here with both teams looking to stamp their authority on the tournament and click into form. Islamabad have had a mixed start and while they bat incredibly deep, their core batting order is struggling right now. Quetta made a bright start and looked strong in their opening match, but this will be a tough test for them here. They are narrowly favoured largely due to Islamabad’s batting woes, but it really is a game that could go either way.
