All-time meetings:
Islamabad United W6, Peshawar Zalmi W4
Last meeting: Peshawar Zalmi beat Islamabad United by 4 wickets

Coach: Dean Jones

Captain: Mohammad Sami

  • Islamabad United qualified for this final Eliminator after beating Karachi Kings on Thursday by four wickets and that came after a poor start as the Kings had smashed 102 from just over ten overs before they collapsed to just 161/9 from their 20 overs.

  • Their pace bowlers did well to turn it around when it looked like pace was going to suffer on the lightening fast outfield in Karachi but they took the pace off the ball well, although it may lead them to contemplate bringing another spinner in so Samit Patel could feature here.

  • Chadwick Walton was out for a duck in that match and his place could be under threat by Patel or potential Phil Salt could be handed a recall to the team if they do decide to make changes for this crunch match.

Coach: Mohammad Akram

Captain: Darren Sammy

  • Peshawar Zalmi lost to Quetta Gladiators in the first Eliminator for the third time this edition as they fell ten runs short of their 186/6 so they have to meet defending champions Islamabad United in this final eliminator to see who will meet the Gladiators in the final.

  • Chris Jordan has arrived in Pakistan available to play here and he has every chance of starting given his superb form for England in the Caribbean so he could replace Sameen Gul who has been hit for 46 and 49 in his last two matches, so that represents a notable upgrade.

  • Peshawar’s top order will be key to their hopes here as they have relied heavily on their middle order to rescue them at times and they may consider one or two changes there with Sohaib Maqsood potentially dropping out of the side after his struggles.

These two teams have won a game apiece in their previous meetings this season but it is Islamabad who come into this crunch match with the greater momentum. Their bowlers did well to restrict Karachi on Thursday while their batsmen looked formidable as usual. They certainly have the edge with the bat but it is Peshawar’s bowling attack which is clearly the better unit. Hasan Ali has been joined by Tymal Mills and Chris Jordan which makes them absolutely formidable. If they can take early wickets, it could turn the game in their favour, but their batting looks a little fragile. There is very little to choose between these two but momentum and balance may just tip the scales in Islamabad’s favour.
