MULTAN SULTANS

Coach: Tom Moody

Captain: Shoaib Malik

  • The Sultans' top of the table clash on Friday against the Kings had to be abandoned due to rain causing the outfield to be unplayable so this will be their first match since the tournament moved to Sharjah.
  • They named an unchanged side in the abandoned game against the Kings so there is every likelihood that they will do so again although many teams have made one or two changes as they have moved the tournament to Sharjah.
  • The defeat last time out to Islamabad came as their batsmen failed for the first time in the competition as they were bowled out for 113 and only three players reached double figures, highlighting the need for Sangakkara and Ahmed Shezhad to make a good start opening the innings.

QUETTA GLADIATORS

Coach: Moin Khan

Captain: Sarfraz Ahmed

  • The Gladiators looked on course to win the close game against Peshawar Zalmi before Darren Sammy stepped up with his damaged knee and hit the required runs from the final over to grab the victory so they will be looking to bounce back here.
  • Kevin Pietersen failed to field towards the end of that game so he could be doubtful to play here while they will be hoping to count upon Jofra Archer who has missed the last two matches with a strain.
  • Shane Watson continues to be key for the team with both bat and ball right now as he has been their leading run-scorer in two of their four matches so far and has taken six wickets in those matches also, so they will look to him for more inspiration.

PREDICTION
An intriguing game between two sides that are firmly established in the top four coming into this game. The Gladiators bat incredibly deep and assuming their key men like Pietersen and Archer are fit, have plenty of quality throughout. The Sultans have not played in almost a week while the Gladiators have played twice already in Sharjah so the Quetta outfit may be the sharper of the two teams. The Sultans have the more settled team and have been playing some good cricket but the lack of matches recently may count against them so the edge goes to the Gladiators but only if their key men are playing...otherwise it is safer to leave this one alone or consider the Sultans.
