HEAD-TO-HEAD
All-time meetings: Islamabad United W4, Peshawar Zalmi W3

ISLAMABAD UNITED

Coach: Dean Jones

Captain: JP Duminy

  • Islamabad come into this game as unquestionably the best team up until this stage as they dominated the group, winning seven of their ten matches, and their batting and the form of Luke Ronchi especially has been the best in PSL 2018.
  • United will be without English duo Alex Hales and Sam Billings for the final and the loss of Hales especially is a blow, but they are not too weakened as overseas stars JP Duminy, Samit Patel, Chadwick Walton, Luke Ronchi and Steven Finn have all travelled to Karachi
  • South African star JP Duminy will captain the side as veteran skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has been ruled out for several weeks with a wrist injury but while they will miss his leadership, Misbah will be replaced adequately in the batting line-up and in the field.

PESHAWAR ZALMI

Coach: Mohammad Akram

Captain: Darren Sammy

  • The defending champions have had to win their last four matches to get to the final once again but they are playing well and have all the momentum coming into this game as they face the PSL 2016 champions.
  • All of Zalmi’s overseas players made the trip to Karachi with Darren Sammy, Andre Fletcher, Chris Jordan and Liam Dawson all travelling and there is every chance that they will name the same eleven players that overcame the Karachi Kings to reach the final.
  • Despite struggling with injury, iconic captain Darren Sammy will play the final and lead his team and he rallied the fans prior to their arrival in Karachi by encouraging them to meet them in the airport and to come to the stadium on Sunday wearing yellow.

PREDICTION
The 2016 PSL champions Islamabad United meet the 2017 and defending PSL champions Peshawar Zalmi in Karachi to crown the winners of the third edition of the tournament. Zalmi come into the final in excellent form having produced some outstanding cricket at key moments to reach this final. They do however face a United side that has arguably been the best and most consistent throughout the tournament. It could very well come down to a shootout between Zalmi’s Kamran Akmal and United’s Luke Ronchi who have been the best two batsmen in the tournament. Outside of those two big hitters, United have the greater firepower and depth with the bat, and that may just be the decisive factor in what should be a superb final.
