All-time meetings: Islamabad United W2, Karachi Kings W4

Coach: Dean Jones

Captain: Misbah-ul-Haq

  • The race for the top four will likely be tighter than ever this season so Islamabad United know they need to get a win to stay in contention despite winning their last game against the Qalandars in the first ever Super Over in the PSL.
  • They made three changes last time out but they may consider bringing the likes of Chadwick Walton and Steven Finn back into the side, with the batting line-up still needing to be refined as they have yet to find their optimal order.
  • Mohammad Sami once again showed how he is one of the best bowlers at the death in the PSL and they will look to him, Samit Patel and Shadab Khan to bowl well once again, but if their batting lets them down against the Kings, these opponents will not be as forgiving as the Qalandars.

Coach: Mickey Arthur

Captain: Imad Wasim

  • The Kings last match against the Sultans was postponed due to the rain so it is almost a week since time they played in the win over the Qalandars so they may be a little rusty coming into this game without momentum despite being the best team in PSL 2018 so far.
  • Shahid Afridi had been left out of that game due to injury and it has emerged he has some swelling on his knee which could see him miss several games, and that is a blow to their bowling and batting without their talented veteran all-rounder.
  • Mohammad Amir is available after missing the last game and he will take Afridi’s place so they are slightly weakened in terms of batting along with a different bowling option, but they still remain one of the strongest line-ups overall.

Despite coming off a win last time out, United’s Super Over victory came against the winless Qalandars and it was a game they should really have lost. That win may have masked some of their deficiencies as although they have two wins from four, and this has been a relatively low scoring PSL, their batting especially has been extremely fragile so far. The Kings on the other hand are flying and have been playing the best all-round cricket in PSL 2018. They have not played since Monday but should still have too much quality for United even without Afridi.
